Hernando and Northpoint Christian School cross country runners took part in Saturday night’s City Auto Memphis Twilight Cross Country Classic at Mike Rose Soccer Complex. Hernando coach Logan Clark said his team shone in the twilight competition and it’s been a strong start to the year.

“We have had a great start to the cross country season with a strong team of 48 runners,” Clark said. “We have runners who range from seventh to 12th grade and everyone competes at the high school level.”

In the boys’ varsity run, Hernando was again led by sophomore Graham Weiss, who finished in a time of 17:30.51, good for 64th place in the large field of schools that participated. Junior Joseph Thornhill followed for Hernando with a time of 18:59.03, and another junior, Evan Stroupe ran a 19:17.65 clocking.

Noah Carpenter ran individually for Northpoint Christian, and finished 37th overall in a time of 17:07.13.

As a team, Hernando was 28th with a team score of 762 points among the 47 school teams that took part.

In the girls’ varsity run, Hernando sophomore Riley Jackson took 17th overall with a time of 20:21.30, followed by junior Jessica Cartwright, who was 38th with a time of 20:38.41.

As a team, the Lady Tigers were ninth overall with a team score of 250 points among the 40 school teams that took part.

“Our team has really grown this year with a strong summer of training and great parental support to supply our runners with everything we need,” Clark said.
