Supervisors, aldermen to meet this week

DeSoto County supervisors and city Boards of Aldermen return to work this week in regular meetings. 

The DeSoto County Board of Supervisors will meet at 9 a.m. Monday morning in the County Administration Building in Hernando. City aldermen will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Southaven, Horn Lake and Hernando, and at 6:30 p.m. in Olive Branch.

Among the meeting highlights…

  • A Southaven Planning agenda item has an application by the City of Southaven to rezone properties identified on a submitted map to a Commercial Medical (CM) overlay zone.
  • Horn Lake aldermen will be asked to recommend a contract for the Nail Road Water Treatment Plant upgrade to be awarded to Landmark, LLC for the base bid items plus the additive bid A in the amount of $1,693,500.00. Board members will also be asked to act on a Planning Commission approval for a Muslim cemetery in the 4600 block of Church Road.  
  • Hernando aldermen will be asked to approve Mayor Chip Johnson’s recommendation of Assistant Chief Shane Ellis to become the city’s Police Chief with the retirement of Scott Worsham at the end of November. Ellis would become Police Chief on Dec. 1.
