More lifesaving courses offered for firefighters

The Mississippi State Fire Academy (MSFA) has been certified as an American Heart Association ACLS, BLS, PALS, and Heart Saver Training Center. This means firefighters can receive top-tier CPR training for a minimal cost. This will improve access to fire services training statewide.

The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians (MBCI) also operates a certified training program. MBCI acted as a sponsor for MSFA while the academy worked toward certification.

“We cannot thank the Band of Choctaw Indians enough for their help,” said MSFA Executive Director Terry Wages. “Firefighters are often the first people on the scene of accidents and medical emergencies. The need for increased CPR training for firefighters is growing in Mississippi and especially in rural areas of the state.”

The MSFA provided this video of the news conference that announced the certification.
