Senators face a Feb. 3 deadline to report general bills originating in their chamber.

Senate passes bills for free National Guard healthcare and new tourism department

The Senate met a key deadline on Wednesday, Jan. 14, for requesting the drafting of general bills and constitutional amendments.

The session began Tuesday, Jan. 6, as Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann presided over the swearing-in of five new senators and six returning members.

The special election for Mississippi Senate District 2 is set for Tuesday, Nov. 4.

He becomes the first candidate to publicly declare his intentions to run.

A budget has to be settled by July 1, when the new fiscal year begins.
