Two dozen caught in interstate shooting
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and state Bureau of Narcotics are investigating Thursday’s shooting incident in Tate County that has resulted in more than 20 arrests.
Preliminary information from the Senatobia Police Department late Thursday afternoon said the incident took place shortly after 12:30 p.m. Tate County 911 was called to report a gunshot victim whose vehicle was hit on I-55 southbound near the Coldwater exit.
Police stated the caller was able to get to the Main Street exit in Senatobia and met officers at the nearby Huddle House restaurant, where officers confirm that one person was shot.
In their investigation, officers were told that a caravan of suspect vehicles continued southbound on I-55 after the shooting.
Senatobia officers caught up with the four-vehicle caravan and stayed with it until other agencies were called in to assist them. The cars exited the interstate at state Highway 6 in Batesville and that was where the coordinated officers stopped the cars and a total of 21 occupants were arrested.
Meanwhile, a search was conducted on the vehicle that was shot at and police there found a firearm, along with a felony amount of narcotics and cash.
Due to what was found, three additional arrests were made, including one person identified as a convicted felon.
The investigation into the shooting continues with the MBI and state Narcotics officials now the lead agencies in the case. Identities of the people involved has not been released, although WREG Television in Memphis reports on its website a Memphis rapper was among those being held.
