Siemens Energy to build $300 million manufacturing facility, add 300 jobs

JACKSON, Miss. — Siemens Energy, a global leader in energy technology, announced Tuesday it will invest up to $300 million to construct a new advanced manufacturing facility in Rankin County, a move expected to create 300 high-skilled jobs.

The project is part of a larger $1 billion investment the company is making across its United States operations. The new plant, located at the West Rankin Industrial Park in Pearl, will focus on producing electrical grid components. It marks the company’s second major footprint in the county, joining its long-time Richland location that has been operating since 1973.

“Siemens Energy’s decision to expand in Rankin County reflects the confidence global energy leaders have in the state,” Gov. Tate Reeves said in a statement. “This $300 million investment will expand the local industrial base and keep Mississippi competitive in a rapidly evolving global energy market.”

The expansion comes at a critical time for the nation’s power infrastructure. Company officials noted that the high-voltage switchgear produced in Mississippi is in high demand as the U.S. works to modernize its electrical grid to handle increased power needs for homes and businesses.

The Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) is supporting the project through the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive (MFLEX) program, along with assistance for infrastructure improvements. Local partners, including the City of Pearl, Rankin First Economic Development Authority, and Hinds Community College, are also collaborating to provide workforce training and site readiness.

“For more than 50 years, Siemens Energy has been the cornerstone of Rankin County’s industrial identity,” said Noel Daniels, Chairman of the Rankin First Economic Development Authority. “This new state-of-the-art facility ensures our partnership will thrive for decades to come.”

Rankin County officials highlighted the long-term impact on the local economy, noting that Siemens Energy is already the county’s largest industrial employer. The new facility in Pearl will complement the existing Richland site, strengthening the region’s position as a hub for energy infrastructure manufacturing.

“This project stands as one of the largest job creation announcements in our county’s history,” Pearl Mayor Jake Windham said. “It proves that our workforce is ready to power the next generation of American infrastructure.”

Siemens Energy, which became a fully independent company in 2020 after spinning off from Siemens AG, expects the new facility to significantly increase its production capacity to meet the growing domestic demand for grid reliability.
