Seven separate shootings reported, six injured in what police are investigating as gang violence
Authorities are investigating a series of shootings that occurred across Tunica County over the weekend and into Monday, leaving multiple people injured and several suspects in custody.
According to the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office, the first incident occurred late Saturday night, March 7, at approximately 11:58 p.m., when deputies received a 911 call from a person reporting he had been shot on Fitzgerald Boulevard in Robinsonville. Deputies and first responders arrived and located Jaylin Liddell, 18, of Tunica, suffering from a gunshot wound. Liddell was treated at the scene by Pafford EMS and transported to a hospital for treatment.
Early Sunday morning, March 8, at about 3:08 a.m., deputies responded to reports of shots fired at Tunica River Park on Riverpark Drive in Robinsonville. When deputies arrived, they found Recovyon Reed, 21, of Tunica, who had been shot. Reed was treated by Pafford and transported to a hospital.
Just over an hour later, at approximately 4:23 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the Waffle House on U.S. Highway 61 in Robinsonville after reports of gunfire in the parking lot. No victims were located at the scene.
At 4:52 a.m., authorities were notified by a hospital that Deonte Taylor, 20, of Tunica, had arrived by personal vehicle seeking treatment for a gunshot wound.
Another shooting was reported around 5:18 a.m. on Prichard Road in the Old Sub area of Tunica. Deputies in the area spotted a black Infiniti leaving the scene at a high rate of speed and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle fled, leading deputies on a high-speed chase into DeSoto County along Arkabutla Dam Road and across Arkabutla Lake Dam.
The vehicle eventually crashed, and three occupants fled on foot. Deputies from the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office, pursued and apprehended the suspects. Authorities identified them as Antonio Allen, 23, of Tunica; Mylon Done, 22, of Friars Point; and Darrius Robinson, 31, of Memphis. Multiple firearms were recovered from the vehicle in plain view during an inventory search.
Minutes later, at approximately 5:23 a.m., deputies responded to a residence on Gay Street in the Old Sub area after receiving a report that a person had been shot. Deputies located Ceedrick Wheeler, 21, of Tunica, suffering from a gunshot wound. Wheeler was treated at the scene and transported to a hospital.
At 6:03 a.m., the sheriff’s office was notified that Khritavious Magsby, 30, of Clarksdale, had arrived at a hospital by personal vehicle with a gunshot wound.
Authorities later arrested Jon Talton “JT” Carter, 22, of Tunica, in connection with the shooting at Tunica River Park. Carter has been charged with attempted murder.
Another shooting occurred Monday afternoon, March 9, at approximately 1:16 p.m., when deputies responded to reports of gunfire on Curtistine Drive in Tunica. Deputies found Mario Lester, 18, of Tunica, suffering from a gunshot wound. Lester was treated by Pafford EMS and transported to a hospital.
Investigators identified Charles Davis Jr., 19, of Tunica, as a person of interest in the incident. Davis turned himself in to the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office at approximately 3:15 p.m. Monday and is currently in custody pending further investigation.
Officials say the investigation remains active and ongoing, and additional arrests are possible. Authorities believe the incidents may be connected to gang-related activity and retaliatory violence, with potential charges including attempted murder and drive-by shooting.
The Tunica County Sheriff’s Office is receiving assistance from several agencies, including the Tunica Police Department, DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office, Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
Investigators also noted that several individuals involved in the incidents are currently out on bond for previous criminal charges, including homicide and other violent offenses.
