Reeves Orders Special Election for Clarksdale Ward One Commissioner After Illegal Ballots Found
Aug. 14, 2025 – Gov. Tate Reeves has officially announced a special election for the Ward One Commissioner seat in Clarksdale, Mississippi. This decision follows a ruling by the Circuit Court of Coahoma County, which found that “a sufficient number of illegal ballots cast to change the outcome of the election” made a new election necessary.
“Election integrity is paramount,” said Reeves. “When illegal ballots are cast, it undermines the will of the people and erodes faith in our democratic process. I commend the Circuit Court of Coahoma County for their decisive action in calling for a special election to ensure the voters’ voices are truly heard.”
The special election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 18. The ballot will feature only two candidates: Timothy W. “Bo” Plunk and Ray Sykes, who were the original contestants for the position.
This special election aims to rectify the previous irregularities and ensure a fair and transparent outcome for the residents of Clarksdale’s Ward One.
