Pinkins renews call to debate Wicker

Aug. 13, 2024 -Ty Pinkins, the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, has once again challenged Sen. Roger Wicker to a public debate. After an unanswered invitation for a debate at the Neshoba County Fair held July 31, Pinkins has extended an open invitation to debate Sen. Wicker on crucial issues facing Mississippi and the nation at any location and time.

Pinkins sent a letter directly to Sen. Wicker’s office, highlighting the current threats in the national political landscape and their profound impact on the people of Mississippi. In the letter, Pinkins encouraged the Senator to openly share his plans with voters regarding our democracy and his support for policies that could potentially jeopardize their freedoms, economic stability, and daily well-being.

“In our democracy, open dialogue and transparency are essential,” stated Pinkins. “The people of Mississippi should hear directly from both candidates about our visions for the future and plans to address their most pressing concerns. This is why I am reissuing my challenge to Sen. Wicker: Let’s debate, anytime, anywhere.”

Pinkins highlighted the precedent set by former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, who agreed to three debates during their campaigns. He emphasized that he and Sen. Wicker should be able to agree to at least one debate to provide voters with a clear understanding of their platforms and leadership plans.

Pinkins expressed disappointment over the non-response from Wicker’s campaign and missed opportunity at the Neshoba County Fair but remains willing to meet Sen. Wicker anytime, anywhere.   

“This debate isn’t just about our campaigns; it’s about giving the voters of Mississippi a clear understanding of our positions and the future we envision for our state and our country. The people we seek to represent deserve nothing less” said Pinkins.
