HERNANDO, Miss. – District Attorney Matthew Barton announced Thursday that a Panola County man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of attempted murder in DeSoto County Circuit Court.
Anjayvious Farmer, who pleaded guilty in June 2025, received 40 years on each count, to run concurrently, in the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
The charges stem from a violent incident on Sept. 3, 2023, in Coldwater. Farmer confronted his former girlfriend, the mother of his child, at a gas station. When the woman and her boyfriend attempted to leave, Farmer pursued them onto Interstate 55 north into DeSoto County.
During the chase, Farmer fired multiple shots into the victims’ vehicle, striking the driver and forcing the car off the road. A Good Samaritan stopped to help the victims, who both survived and later fully recovered. Farmer fled the scene.
In an effort to cover his tracks, prosecutors said Farmer rigged his own vehicle with a stick and cinder block to wedge the accelerator before running it off an embankment into a creek. The abandoned vehicle was discovered several days later. Farmer fled the state but was eventually located in Wisconsin and extradited back to Mississippi.
“You can run, but you cannot hide from accountability in DeSoto County,” Barton said. “If you commit acts of violence in DeSoto County, you will be caught, you will be prosecuted, and you will go to prison.”
The case was investigated by the Coldwater Police Department and the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department. Assistant District Attorney Ben Weathers led the prosecution.
