Officer‑Involved Shooting in McComb Under State Investigation

JACKSON, Miss. — The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has opened an inquiry into an officer‑involved shooting involving the McComb Police Department that occurred Jan. 21 near the McComb Public Library.

According to initial information, McComb officers responded to reports of a suspicious individual in the area. Police were advised the person might be armed. When officers approached, the individual reportedly made a movement toward them, prompting officers to fire their weapons and strike the subject.

The individual was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries described as non‑life‑threatening. No additional injuries were reported.

MBI agents are gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses as part of their standard protocol for critical incidents. Once the investigation is complete, findings will be turned over to the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office for review. Officials emphasized that all details remain preliminary.
