Mississippi Today wins 2026 Green Eyeshade awards

Mississippi Today has been recognized in multiple categories of the 2026 Society of Professional Journalists’ Green Eyeshade Awards, a prestigious annual competition that recognizes the best journalism in the Southeast.

The organization awarded Mississippi Today and The New York Times first place for Public Service in Written Journalism for the Abuse of Power: Beyond the Goon Squad series. The award honors work that informs communities, holds institutions accountable and makes a meaningful difference.

The 2026 awards consider work published in 2025 and are open to reporters and news organizations from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.

Mississippi Today won five other first place awards, as well as second and third place in several categories.
