Mississippi Lottery transfers $13.2 million to state as Powerball fever drives sales

JACKSON, Miss. – Fueled by a record-breaking $1 billion Powerball jackpot, the Mississippi Lottery Corporation announced a December transfer of more than $13.24 million to the state, marking the largest monthly contribution of the 2026 fiscal year.

The $13,241,964.31 transfer brings the total funding for Mississippi’s roads and bridges to $66,594,965.60 for Fiscal Year 2026. Since its inception six years ago, the lottery has contributed more than $758 million to state infrastructure and education funds.

“The end of 2025 saw incredible momentum,” lottery officials said in a statement, noting that the figures remain contingent on a final annual financial audit.

Weekend Winners and Jackpot Updates

The surge in sales coincided with a string of big wins across the Magnolia State this past weekend. A Moss Point resident struck gold in the Sunday, Jan. 18, Mississippi Match 5 drawing. The winning ticket, purchased at Circle K Store #2723758, matched all five numbers to secure a jackpot of $92,308.62. Following the win, the Match 5 jackpot resets to an estimated $50,000 for the next drawing.

In Columbia, a Powerball player narrowly missed the grand prize on Saturday but still walked away with a significant payout. The ticket, sold at Ramey’s, matched four of the five white balls to win $50,000. Officials noted that had the player opted for the $1 Power Play add-on, the prize would have quadrupled to $200,000.

Upcoming Drawings

With no grand prize winner on Saturday, the Powerball jackpot continues to climb. The estimated jackpot for the Monday, Jan. 19, drawing is $193 million, with a projected lump-sum cash value of $87.9 million.

Mississippi Lottery players are encouraged to check their tickets and sign the back of winning tickets immediately.
