Mississippi K9 helps locate lost hunter

Yazoo County — A Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) K9 unit helped rescue a lost hunter on the Sunflower Wildlife Management Area in Sharkey County on Wednesday.

According to MDWFP, K9 Officer Baylee Jones and Officer Christopher Dean responded to a call from Yazoo County Dispatch about a missing hunter in the area. Upon arrival, the officers were given the hunter’s last known location before deploying K9 Dempsey to assist in the search.

Within just 15 minutes, Dempsey successfully located the missing individual, who was found in stable condition. The hunter was safely escorted back to his vehicle without further incident.

MDWFP commended the quick response and teamwork of Officers Jones and Dean, as well as the skillful work of K9 Dempsey, for bringing the search to a swift and safe conclusion.
