Mississippi Football Player Passes Away After Game Thursday Night
Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC) is mourning the loss of student-athlete Emanuell Cooks of Elba, Alabama, who passed away due to medical complications following the football game against Hinds Community College on Thursday, September 18, 2025, in Raymond.
MDCC President Dr. Steven Jones shared a message of grief and unity following the tragedy.
“Our entire Trojan family is devastated by this loss,” Dr. Jones said. “At this time, our deepest thoughts and prayers are with Emanuell’s family, teammates, coaches, and friends. We will come together as a community to support one another through this tragedy.”
The college has made counseling and support services available to students, faculty, and staff. MDCC is asking that the privacy of Cooks’ family and the campus community be respected as they grieve.
