Miss. Sen. Bradford Blackmon urges state to lead on AI regulation

Sen. Bradford Blackmon called artificial intelligence a “wild frontier” and urged Mississippi to be out front in regulating the technology, saying unchecked deepfakes could cause harm, Blackmon said.

This session, Blackmon introduced two bills that did not pass but prompted debate in the Legislature, he said.

One bill would have protected Mississippians’ right to their name, image and likeness. The other would have required disclosure when political advertisements are generated with AI, Blackmon said.

Blackmon said the proposals were intended to spark discussion about how the state should respond to rapidly advancing technology.
