MBI investigates officer-involved shooting

At the request of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, the  Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Hancock County. 

On Monday, Feb. 1, deputies with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare concern in the 30000 block of Earl C. Ladner Road.

Upon arrival, deputies encountered gunfire from Joseph Michael Rohrbacker. Hancock County Deputy Lt. Michael Boutte and Rohrbacker both sustained gunshot wounds during an exchange of gunfire.

Boutte and Rohrbacker were transported to a hospital in Louisiana, where Boutte later died. Rohrbacker is receiving treatment for his injuries and will be extradited to Mississippi to face charges.
