Maryland Sen. Angela Alsobrooks to campaign with Scott Colom in Jackson

Scott Colom, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Mississippi, will campaign with Sen. Angela Alsobrooks of Maryland in Jackson on Saturday. 

Alsobrooks, who was first elected in 2024, will participate in a maternal health panel discussion with Colom on Saturday morning in downtown Jackson. The two will later participate in a voting rights town hall with Mississippi Congressman Bennie Thompson and Mississippi NAACP Director Charles Taylor on Saturday evening. 

Alsobrooks is the third Black woman elected to the U.S. Senate and is the first Black person to represent Maryland in the Senate. 

The Maryland senator will be the first Democrat from outside the Magnolia State to campaign for Colom in his home state. In April, U.S. Sen. John Kennedy, a Republican from Louisiana, came to Mississippi for a fundraiser for Colom’s opponent, Republican incumbent Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith. 

Hyde-Smith, Colom and independent candidate Ty Pinkins will compete in the general election on Nov. 3.
