Hospitals save over $1 million with new insurance program

Aug. 19, 2025 – Mississippi hospitals have saved more than $1 million in insurance premiums this year through a new partnership between the Mississippi Hospital Association and Alliant Insurance Services.

The program, launched in 2024, provides member hospitals with access to competitive property and workers’ compensation insurance plans. More than 20 hospitals have already joined, with MHA expecting participation to grow.

MHA President and CEO Richard Roberson said the savings come at a crucial time as hospitals continue to face rising health care costs, especially in rural areas.

“MHA works closely with our member hospitals to help them achieve some of the lowest costs in the nation, but rising healthcare expenses—especially for rural providers—remain a major challenge,” Roberson said. “This collaboration with Alliant connects our members to trusted experts who can often secure stronger coverage at lower premiums. The early results have been outstanding.”

Stephen Fountain, regional director with Alliant, said the partnership has allowed hospitals to find meaningful solutions without cutting back on patient care.

“These hospitals have already been proactive in finding solutions to high healthcare costs,” Fountain said. “We are proud to help them free up significant additional funds without compromising the quality of care they provide.”

Chad Netterville, director of the Mississippi Rural Hospital Alliance, said hospitals are using the savings to reinvest directly in their communities. That includes raises for employees, new hires, expanded services and equipment upgrades.

MHA and Alliant plan to expand the program statewide through 2026.

“Alliant looks at this as an annual checkup,” said Alliant Vice President Burney Hutchinson. “You may feel fine, but that in-depth review can uncover opportunities to dramatically improve your health and performance. That’s exactly what this collaboration is doing for MHA members.”

The Mississippi Hospital Association is the statewide trade organization that represents hospitals and health care providers across Mississippi.
