Hinds County officer-involved shooting suspect sought

Feb. 23, 2025- The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office that occurred at a residence on Midway Road in Terry, Mississippi on Feb. 23.

A deputy with the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for service. Upon arrival to the residence, the subject discharged a weapon striking the deputy. The deputy received life-threatening injuries and later succumbed to his injuries. He was identified as Martin Shields Jr. It was unknown if the subject received any injuries at this time.

The subject has been identified as Eric Brown, age 42. Brown has not been apprehended and is believed to be armed and dangerous, if you see him or come in contact with him, call 911 immediately.

MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office. This information is preliminary and subject to change.
