Health Insurance Marketplace Open Enrollment Period
The annual Health Insurance Marketplace open enrollment period opened in November. The Mississippi Hospital Association (MHA) reminds Mississippians of the opportunity to access low- or no-cost health insurance and free local assistance. Open enrollment runs through Jan. 15, 2025.
In 2024, qualified enrollees who utilized available subsidies obtained health insurance for less than $10 per month, saving an average of over $380 monthly. This year offers another chance for Mississippians to secure affordable, comprehensive coverage. The subsidies, however, are currently set to expire at the end of 2025. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, the subsidies currently save those signing up for coverage about $700 or 44% a year on average.
“Every Mississippian deserves access to quality, affordable health care,” said Richard Roberson, President/CEO of MHA. “During this open enrollment period, I encourage everyone to explore their options and find a plan that meets their needs.”
Key open enrollment dates for 2025 coverage include:
- Nov. 1, 2024 – Jan. 15, 2025: Open enrollment period.
- December 15, 2024: Deadline for coverage starting Jan. 1, 2025
- Jan. 15, 2025: Final deadline for coverage beginning Feb. 1, 2025.
Consumers who miss these deadlines will likely need to wait another year to obtain coverage unless they qualify for a special enrollment period.
Mississippians can shop for plans on the Health Insurance Marketplace at HealthCare.gov or call 800-318-2596 (TTY: 1-855-889-4325). Recent Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services updates have streamlined plan options to simplify decision-making.
