Former Mississippi officer pleads guilty to pawning duty weapon, stolen evidence

JACKSON, Miss. — A former Centreville police officer has pleaded guilty to embezzlement after pawning his duty weapon and two other pistols stolen from the department’s evidence room, the state auditor announced Wednesday.

Patrick Harris entered the guilty plea for one count of embezzlement in Wilkinson County Circuit Court, State Auditor Shad White said in a statement.

Investigators discovered Harris pawned his assigned service pistol. Months later, he took two pistols from the police evidence and property room and pawned those as well.

Harris was sentenced to 10 years of probation. He was also ordered to pay $731.12 in restitution, $432.50 in court costs, and $750 in fines.

“I’m thankful to the agents in my office for working on this case as long as the prosecutor who helped bring it to a close,” White said. “We will continue to work hand-in-hand with prosecutors to hold those who steal taxpayer money accountable.”
