Finance reports ahead of primary election issued

Primary election day is coming up on Tuesday, June 7 and DeSoto County voters have just one race on the ballot to consider.

The First Congressional District primary will have Republicans and Democrats determining the candidates to be on the ballot for the November general election.

Republicans have the choice of incumbent Rep. Trent Kelly and Olive Branch resident Mark Struass.

Democrats will select between Dianne Dodson Black of Olive Branch and Hunter Avery. 

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) has released the latest campaign spending reports for each candidate. 

According to the FEC, Trent Kelly had $227,132,64 cash on hand as of May 18 and Dianne Dodson Black reported $3,114.47 cash on hand as of May 25. Avery and Strauss had no reports available.  

Absentee voting continues through Saturday, June 4 at 12 noon at the Circuit Clerk’s office. Hours Monday-Friday at 8 a.m-5 p.m. Polls are open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on Election Day.
