DeSoto County homes remain among most expensive in state
New information through the month of June continues to put homes in DeSoto County among the most valuable, if you’re a homeowner, or expensive, if you’re in the market to buy.
Location, size, age, and condition are all contributing factors to home value and a new report from the website Stacker indicates DeSoto County commands rising values for residences.
The information Stacker uses data from Zillow. Cities are ranked using Zillow Home Values Index for all homes as of June 2023.
The Mississippi portion of the Memphis metropolitan area ties Jackson as the metros with the most number of cities in the top 30 at eight each. Gulfport-Biloxi follows with seven and Oxford with two. Columbus, Hattiesburg, Picayune, Starkville and Tupelo each have one.
Among the 30 cities listed, Nesbit, Hernando, and Olive Branch were the highest ranked.Nesbit follows Madison with a number two ranking, with Hernando third and Olive Branch fourth. The typical home value in Nesbit is $342,665. It is $325,630 in Hernando and the typical home value in Olive Branch is $325,216.
Those prices have gone up between 1.7 and 2.8 percent in the past year, but have gone up between 38.5 and 48 percent in the past five years.
Southaven is ranked 11th in the report with a typical home value of $259,555, a price tag that has gone up more than 54 percent in the past five years.
Walls comes in at number 25 with a typical home value of $225,780, a hike of 49 percent in the past five years and six percent higher in the last 12 months.
The 30-year fixed mortgage rate on July 20 was set at 6.96 percent. You can read more on the report for Mississippi on the Stacker website.
