County adds four to COVID-19 death toll

Four more people in DeSoto County have died with COVID-19, according to Friday’s update on cases and deaths from the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH). 

The four new death reports include two that occurred between Dec. 11-16 and two between Nov. 13-Dec. 14.  

It brings to 121 the number of deaths the MSDH reports are connected to coronavirus as the pandemic continues across the country.  Twenty of the deaths have been in long-term care facilities, where there have been 103 outbreaks of the virus. 

The number of COVID-19 cases in DeSoto County grew on Friday by 185 to a total of 12,746 cases.

Mississippi’s number of coronavirus cases grew by 2,507 on Friday to a total of 190,411. That marks the seventh straight day that cases in Mississippi grew by more than 2,000.

There have been 4,354 deaths of people connected to coronavirus in Mississippi as of Friday, according to MSDH, which is 34 more than Thursday’s total.
