UPDATE: Body found on Delta State campus; identified; investigation underway
UPDATE: CLEVELAND, MS — A Delta State University student was found dead on campus Monday morning, with officials identifying the individual as Demontre “Tre” Reed, 21, from Grenada.
Delta State University President Daniel Ennis released a statement expressing the community’s grief. “Our community is deeply saddened by this loss,” Ennis said. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of all those impacted by Tre’s loss.”
According to Delta State University Police Chief Michael Peeler, Reed was discovered just after 7 a.m. hanging from a tree near the school’s pickleball courts on the central part of campus. Peeler stated that the cause of death is still under investigation, pending a report from the medical examiner’s office.
No further details have been released at this time.
In response to the incident, all Centennial events and classes scheduled for today have been canceled.
Officials emphasized that the campus remains safe and assured the community that updates will be shared when appropriate.
