Amick Farms announces $74.5M Laurel expansion, 190 jobs
JACKSON, Miss. — Poultry processor Amick Farms is expanding operations at its Laurel facility, a project representing a $74.5 million corporate investment and expected to create approximately 190 jobs over the next three years.
Headquartered in Batesburg, South Carolina, Amick Farms purchased the Laurel production facility in 2021. The expansion will boost processing capacity from 800,000 to about 1.1 million head per week.
The Mississippi Development Authority is supporting the project through the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive (MFLEX) program and infrastructure improvements. The Economic Development Authority of Jones County also is assisting.
Gov. Tate Reeves praised the investment, noting agriculture’s role in Mississippi’s economy. “This $74 million investment and nearly 200 jobs in Laurel builds on that strong foundation and legacy,” Reeves said.
Mississippi Development Authority Executive Director Bill Cork said the expansion reflects the state’s ability to meet the needs of companies investing in Mississippi. “We are strengthening local tax bases, unlocking new opportunities for Mississippians and generating revenue for the state,” Cork said.
Laurel Mayor Johnny Magee called the project “real, tangible benefits for the people of Laurel,” citing new jobs and career pathways. Jones County Economic Development Authority President Ross Tucker added that Amick Farms has been a strong contender in the poultry industry since arriving in 2021.
Amick Farms plans to fill the new positions over the next three years.
