Amazon to invest $3 billion in new Vicksburg location

JACKSON, Miss. — Gov. Tate Reeves announced Thursday that Amazon will invest $3 billion to build a new data center campus in Vicksburg, marking the largest private-sector investment in Warren County’s history.

The project is expected to create at least 200 high-paying full-time jobs and support more than 300 additional positions in the region. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2016.

“This $3 billion investment by Amazon is the largest in Warren County’s history and another massive win for our state,” Reeves said. “Amazon’s commitment will create hundreds of direct jobs and supply chain positions and further cement Mississippi as a leader in American innovation.”

The announcement builds on Amazon’s previous commitment to Mississippi. In January 2024, the company pledged $10 billion to establish data center campuses in Madison County, creating 1,000 direct jobs and thousands of indirect jobs through construction and supply chain services.

Amazon Web Services (AWS), the company’s cloud computing division, is expanding its infrastructure nationwide to support generative AI, machine learning, and advanced computing. Officials said the Vicksburg campus will strengthen U.S. leadership in AI and provide opportunities for local communities through workforce development and education programs.

David Zapolsky, Amazon’s chief global affairs and legal officer, said the investment reflects the company’s long-term partnership with Mississippi. “We’re investing in the people and communities that make Mississippi strong, from training more than 6,500 Mississippians through our workforce development programs to our new Warren County Community Fund, which will address community needs like STEM education,” he said.

Local leaders praised the announcement, noting the impact on small businesses, tax revenues, and long-term growth. Pablo Diaz, president and CEO of the Vicksburg Warren Economic Development Partnership, called the project “a defining moment for our community.”

Entergy Mississippi and AccelerateMS also played key roles in securing the project, ensuring reliable energy and workforce readiness.
