Apr 30, 2025 –  Northpoint Christian baseball and softball teams opened TSSAA Division II-A West Region play Wednesday with victories on their home diamonds over their respective Fayette Academy teams.

The Northpoint baseball was aided by a six-tinning no-hitter from pitcher Ty Waller in posting a 10-0 victory against the Vikings, after the Lady Trojan softball squad run-ruled Fayette Academy 12-2 in five innings.

NORTHPOINT BASEBALL 10, FAYETTE ACADEMY 0 (6 INNINGS): The hour reached nine o’clock and the raindrops were starting to fall as the Trojans were wrapping up their first-round playoff victory. But the rain would not dampen the performance of Northpoint pitcher Ty Waller, who held the Vikings without a hit while striking out three and allowing two walks.

“How awesome was that!” Northpoint coach Stephen Kirkpatrick said about his senior pitcher. “Ty’s a kid who came over here (from Marion, Arkansas) and just has worked so, so hard and continued to get better. I mean, he just threw an absolute gem tonight.”

Fayette Academy did themselves no favors with six errors in the field but the Trojans sprayed the field with 10 hits while playing errorless ball.

Jayden Parker homered and the Trojans got extra-base hits from KL Farr and Vail Perkins in the win. Add two hits from Nolan Bone and the top four in the order produced six runs, seven hits, and five runs batted in.

“Top three in the order, three seniors,” Kirkpatrick said. “I mean, it’s playoff time and it’s time for seniors to shine and they were really, really productive.”

Northpoint took a 4-0 lead after one inning and made it in the second 5-0 when Farr doubled to score Bone. Parker broke the game open in the third with a three-run homer to left, scoring Nick Thomason and Jack Harrell ahead of him. The final two runs were scored on a throwing error to plate Bone and a single to center by Kaden Clayborn to score courtesy runner Harrison Brown and end the game.

Northpoint will host St. George’s on Thursday night at 7:15 p.m. The Gryphons opened their tournament with an 8-2 win at Tipton-Rosemark Wednesday night.

NORTHPOINT SOFTBALL 12, FAYETTE ACADEMY 2 (5 INNINGS): When the Northpoint Christian softball team wins, it usually wins big. A recent 11-4 victory over Bartlett, Tennessee was about the closest contest outside of a 9-7 loss to Millington Central last week, since late March.

Wednesday’s 12-2 victory over Fayette Academy started slow through three innings, but Northpoint then scored four times in each of the fourth and fifth innings to put the West Region playoff game away.

Until the late outbreak, Fayette Academy had crept within 4-3 Lady Trojans through three innings.

But Ada Woodruff smacked two home runs and drove in four runs, Hannah Bostain also homered and doubled among three hits and three RBIs, Ella Myrick and Kay Bobo both tripled, and Makenlee Bryant doubled as part of a 12-hit attack.

In the circle, Tiffany Garvin continued her pitching dominance with six strikeouts and one earned run allowed in 4.2 innings of action.

The Lady Vikings scored a run on a base hit to open the game, but Northpoint answered when Ella Myrick tripled to score Bostain and then scored herself on a throwing error.

A fielder’s choice plated a third run in the second inning for Northpoint, but Fayette Academy responded with a run-scoring double to get within 3-2 Lady Trojans. A Faith Ryan run-scoring single in the Northpoint third scored Katy Bobo for a 4-2 lead, setting up a four-run outburst in the fourth and four more in the fifth to ice the contest for the Lady Trojans.

The fourth inning saw home runs from Bostain and Woodruff, and Woodruff’s home run to center in the fifth was the game-clinching blow.

“We were seeing the ball really well,” said Northpoint coach Grace Ann Ferguson about her team’s offensive attack. “I told the girls before the game that we had to see the top part of the ball and swing hard and that’s what we did.”

Allowing just four hits, Garvin continues to dominate opposing hitters.

“She really gets in the zone, she gets locked in, and she does her job,” Ferguson said. “She moves the ball really well.”

Northpoint now hosts St. George’s Thursday. The Lady Gryphons advanced with a 5-4 victory Wednesday against Jackson (Tenn.) Christian.
