DELAY IN MHSAA RECLASSIFICATION

Mississippi public schools don’t know yet what class they will be in for the next two years or what region they will be placed in. The reclassification and redistricting of regions for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 school years has not occurred, due to a delay in getting school numbers from the Mississippi Department of Education. That’s according to MHSAA Executive Director Rickey Neaves, who said Tuesday, “We’re working diligently every day on that, and once we get those numbers we will releasing numbers out to our schools and they are approved.”

Neaves also debunked rumors MHSAA has heard the association already had set up the classifications and regions without the MDE numbers. He also asked coaches to stop setting up schedules for next year until those classifications and regions have been determined.

Neaves’ comments were broadcast on the MHSAA Youtube channel.
