Tuesday sports: Mustangs, Tigers, clinch soccer title spots
Two DeSoto County boys soccer teams are heading to the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) state championship round after North Half victories on Tuesday.
Hernando won the 7A North Half championship with a 4-2 victory at Oxford and with the victory, Hernando improved to 19-3 while Oxford ended the season 18-5.
Hernando’s next opponent is the winner of the Northwest Rankin/Gulfport South Half final. (UPDATE: Northwest Rankin won 1-0) They will play at Ridgeland High School on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m.
Meanwhile, playing at Olive Branch High School, Center Hill prevailed over Warren Central Tuesday night with a solid 4-1 win.
The Mustangs advanced to the finals with a record of 19-2 record and will play Long Beach on Saturday evening, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. at Germantown High School in Madison.
Long Beach posted a 3-2 victory over George County in the 6A South Half championship match Tuesday night.
Warren Central ended the season at 16-5-2.
