Tigers sweep South Panola cross country opener

Hernando won both boys and girls divisions at the South Panola cross-country opener meet in Batesville on Saturday morning.

The Hernando boys scored 27 points to second-place Senatobia with 50 points. Lafayette (Oxford) was third with 68 points, followed by Memphis Central and South Panola, in that order.

Aaron Richardson had the best time for Hernando runners with a second-place finish of 18:45.61 for the 5,000 meter course. Ryan Hunter was fourth overall with a time of 19:26.55, and Nathan Jenkins took sixth place with a time of 19:45.08.

The Hernando girls scored 18 points to win the girls’ race that involved three schools. Senatobia was second with 44 points and Lafayette (Oxford) was third with 77 points.

The Lady Tigers finished with the top four places, led by race winner Kyleigh Carter with a time of 20:54.30. She was followed in second place by Natalie Burge with a time of 21:29.98. Abby White was next in third with a 21:38.95 clocking and in fourth place was Evelyn Jewell in a time of 22:18.06.
