Smith named volleyball MACCC Offensive Player of the Week
Oct. 8, 2024 – Northwest outside hitter Maddie Smith has been chosen as this week’s MACCC Offensive Player of the Week for volleyball, the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference announced on Tuesday morning.
Smith, a freshman from Jonesboro, Ark., tallied 54 kills for the week, leading the Lady Rangers in that category. Northwest went 4-0 last week, earning conference wins against Itawamba and Meridian, while also sweeping Henderson State JV last Saturday.
In addition to her kills’ total, Smith also had 28 digs for the week, helping stretch the program’s winning streak to 15 matches. That has since been extended to 16 matches, following Monday’s 3-0 win at Northeast.
For the season, Northwest is 20-6 overall and 5-0 in the MACCC. The Lady Rangers have also surpassed the 20-win mark for the second consecutive year.
This marks the fourth week in a row where a Northwest player has garnered Player of the Week accolades from the conference. The awards are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director.
Northwest will be back in action on Wednesday, October 9 at Pearl River. First serve is scheduled for 5 P.M. from Poplarville.
