DeSoto Central’s lone state champion came from Ian Shepherd, who defeated Colton Gilbert 16-7 for the 144 pound state championship.

Lewisburg featured four wrestlers in the final round, but all four failed to win championships. The four were: Wyatt Cole (120 pounds), Gage Hitt (138 pounds), Lukas Edwards (157 pounds), and Davyn Forte (215 pounds),

Noah Glosson of Hernando was the runner up in the 285 pound, losing to Caeden Hill of Tupelo 3-0 in the final match.

Center Hill’s best finish was Corey Williams, who placed third at 150 pounds.  Olive Branch had four in the state tournament, led by Stevon McDowell, who took sixth place.

Vancleave won the state team title with 278 points, led by five state champions and four runners up. Lewisburg was second with 171 points with four runners up and three third place finishes.  DeSoto Central finished in ninth.

DeSoto County girls also competed in their own division state finals at the same time in Jackson last weekend. Natalie Holloway of Lewisburg wrestled and took sixth place, as the Lady Patriots’ best finish. Hernando’s Hailey Garcia competed but did not place.
