Saturday sports: Tigers extra-inning win over Jaguars opens region play

Hernando 3, DeSoto Central 2 (9 innings)
Hallas Lawson’s single to left in the bottom of the ninth inning scored Brody Martin with the winning run in the first Region 1-7A game of the season for both teams.
Hernando opened the scoring with a run in the third inning, but the Jaguars tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth and led 2-1 in the fifth after Connor Simpson doubled, scoring Ethan Carter. Hernando tied the game in the sixth when a wild pitch scored Donavan Dickson.
Peyton Davis took the loss in relief for DeSoto Central, going three innings, allowing the winning run, with four walks and three strikeouts. Topher Jones won the game on the mound, also in relief, for Hernando, pitching three innings with one walk and five strikeouts.
The series heads to DeSoto Central for a rematch on Tuesday night, March 26.
Lafayette (Oxford) 12, Center Hill 9
Note: The Commodores broke the game in their favor with a six-run fifth inning. The Mustangs had an 8-4 lead through four innings after a five-run third inning. Kyle Erwin scored a run, hit a double and drove in three runs for Center Hill. Houston Green also doubled for the Mustangs. Cohen Matthews took the loss in relief with two earned runs in two-thirds of an inning pitched.
Lake Cormorant 10, Senatobia 6
Note: Lake Cormorant took a 7-0 lead after two innings. Ty Agner led the Gators’ offense with a run scored, two hits, and two RBIs. Braydon Moberly also doubled and drove in a pair of runs. Walker Wixon pitched 4.1 innings, allowed three earned runs, walked two and struck out seven for the mound victory. The Gators’ record is now 12-1 for the season.
Lewisburg 10, Blessed Trinity SE, Georgia 0 (5 innings)
Note: Lewisburg scored all 10 runs in the first inning against the Titans. Talon Haley scored a run, collected two hits and drove in two runs to lead the Patriots’ offense. Easton Fesmire and Cooper Bennett also picked up a pair of RBIs. Matthew Osteen earned the mound victory with three walks and five strikeouts in four innings pitched.
Lewisburg 14, Augusta, Ga. Christian 7
Note: Patriots won the inaugural Southeastern High School Baseball Classic with the victory, improving to 14-3 for the season. Lewisburg scored nine times in the first three innings, including a five-run third inning. The Patriots also scored five in the seventh inning. Gunner Gilmore scored a run, hit safely three times, including a double, and drove in three runs. Talon Haley homered for Lewisburg. Cayden Baker (3-0) was the winning pitcher with five strikeouts and two walks in three innings pitched.
Oxford 10, Southaven 0 (5 innings)
Note: Oxford completed the run-rule victory with a four-run fifth inning. Southaven was held to just one hit by Stephen Tolbert.

St. Benedict at Auburndale 14, Northpoint Christian 5 (5 innings)
Note: SBA scored six times in the fourth inning after Northpoint scored all five of its runs in the third inning. Hannah Bostain and Josey Jones picked up a hit and scored a run for the Lady Trojans. Trinity Garvin took the loss in the circle, pitching 4.2 innings, gave up 10 runs, six earned, walked two and struck out five.
Kosciusko 13, DeSoto Central 7
Note: The Lady Whippets put the game away with a seven-run fifth inning. DeSoto Central scored four times in the fifth inning but trailed 12-7 at that point. Makayla Jamison led the Lady Jag offense with four hits, all singles. Mikayla Johnson had two RBIs. Jamison took the circle loss with five earned runs allowed, four walks and three strikeouts in 3.2 innings pitched.
Northwest Rankin 8, DeSoto Central 1
Note: Northwest Rankin scored four runs in the fifth inning to seal the victory. Mikayla Johnson, Londen Armstrong and Colby Young each got two hits in the contest for DeSoto Central and Young drove in the Lady Jags’ only run, scored by Armstrong. Young took the pitching loss, allowing four runs, three earned, and struck out one.
Northpoint Christian 2, Hernando 1 (6 innings)
Note: Northpoint Christian scored the winning run with their final at bat in the sixth inning. Callie Desmond and Kaitlyn Gentry doubled for Hernando. Lady Tigers’ pitcher Haylee Jackson took the loss, allowing both runs as earned, and struck out six. For Northpoint, Hannah Bostain and Macie Dever-Boaz scored runs with Faith Ryan driving in both runs for the Lady Trojans. Trinity Garvin won the game in the circle for Northpoint, allowing one earned run and striking out four.
Center Hill 6, Starkville 3
Note: The Lady Mustangs scored three times in the second and again in the third inning of the three-inning game. Juliet Davis doubled and Neveah Bussell tripled for Center Hill. Reagan Ryan was the winning pitcher with seven walks and a strikeout in three innings pitched.

Note: Bruce scored all three runs in the third inning.
Lewisburg 11, Madison Central 2
Note: Lady Patriots scored in every inning, including a four-run fifth inning. Leona Klaire Stokes led the Lewisburg offense with two doubles and a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored. Leah Walker threw six innings, allowed two earned runs and struck out four in posting the victory.
Choctaw Central 3, Lake Cormorant 1
Note: Choctaw Central won the five-inning game with two runs in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth. Lake Cormorant’s run came in the first inning for the early lead. Alivia Burns singled and drove in a run for the Lady Gators. Pitcher Alyssa Boswood allowed all three runs in five innings of work, walked one and struck out two.
Choctaw Central 16, Olive Branch 0 (5 innings)
Note: Everlee Verdugo-Privette and Marissa Knighten had base hits for Olive Branch in the loss. Verdugo-Privette took the circle loss, walking two and striking out three for the Lady Quistors.
Wynne, Ark. 13, Olive Branch 0 (4 innings)
Note: Wynne scored seven times in the fourth of the run-rule contest. Everlee Verdugo-Privette took the circle loss for Olive Branch, striking out two.
