LADY TIGERS MAKE IT 21 STRAIGHT WITH SHUTOUT OF GEORGE COUNTY
April 5, 2025 – A highly anticipated high school softball battle between top-ranked Hernando and number three overall George County was won by the Lady Tigers 2-0 Saturday afternoon. The game was played at Belhaven University. Hernando is the top-ranked team overall in Mississippi and in 7A. George County is ranked number one in 6A and is also in the top 50 among national high school softball teams.
Two runs scored in the third inning by Hernando stood up the rest of the contest as the 21-0 Lady Tigers used eight hits to defeat the Lady Rebels.
Olivia Higginbotham had three hits from her lead-off spot and Hayden Hodge added a pair of hits, including a double, to lead the offense. Hodge drove it both runs in the third frame. Callie Desmond added another two-base hit for the Lady Tigers.
Pitching duties were split between Olivia Skinner, Kate Johnson, and Maddie Sowell with Skinner and Johnson each striking out two.
Hernando, also ranked 18th in the nation according to Maxpreps, has a huge Region 1-7A contest against county rival DeSoto Central on Tuesday, April 8, at Hernando.
SOCCER TROJANS TAKE SOUTHERN COAST CUP DIVISION TITLE
Northpoint Christian’s boys soccer team left Foley, Alabama with three straight wins and the Weeks Bay Division championship of the Southern Coast Cup tournament on Saturday.
The Trojans ran through the division with three straight victories, starting Friday with a 3-1 win over Franklin Christian, Tenn. Northpoint followed on Saturday with a four-goal second half comeback to take a 4-2 victory over Logansville, Georgia and completed the sweep Saturday evening with a 4-1 win over St. John Paul II Catholic, Alabama.
Northpoint returns to play on Thursday, April 10, hosting Westminster Academy.
