Saturday sports: Bowen leads Lady Eagles to victory
The Horn Lake girls basketball team defeated Bentonville, Ark. West 50-49 in overtime Saturday, led by Indiya Bowen’s 27 points in the victory.
After being held to just six points in the first half, the Southeast Missouri State signee erupted for 21 points in the second half for the Lady Eagles. The point total included 12 points in the fourth quarter and all six points in overtime. Bowen was also nine of 11 at the free throw line for Horn Lake.
The Lady Eagles took a 22-21 lead at halftime but trailed the Wolverines 33-27 going into the fourth quarter of play.
Led by Bowen, Horn Lake outscored Bentonville West 17-11 in the final eight minutes to send the game into overtime. Horn Lake outscored the Wolverines 6-5 in the extra session.
Kaitlyn Williams and Franziska Kelly added eight points each for the Lady Eagles in the win. Ivorionna Johnson led the Bentonville West attack with 16 in the loss.
Horn Lake finished 2-1 for the weekend in the tournament at Hot Springs, Ark., winning Thursday’s game but losing on Friday before Saturday’s contest with Bentonville West. Horn Lake hosts Olive Branch on Tuesday as part of a boy-girl basketball doubleheader.
