Northwest women’s soccer wins 30th straight, blanks Itawamba 8-0
The top-ranked Northwest Mississippi Community College women’s soccer team continued its dominant run Tuesday, shutting out Itawamba Community College 8-0 for its 30th consecutive victory.
Seven different Rangers scored in the match as Northwest (8-0, 3-0 MACCC) stayed unbeaten at home. Emma Jensen netted two goals, moving into the program’s career scoring record books, while Caroline Perkins, Caroline Hamm, Maggie Pace, Joline Knevel, Molly Thompson and Lillie Grace McCutchen also found the net.
Northwest overwhelmed Itawamba (3-3-2, 0-2-1), firing 37 shots with 22 on target, while holding the Indians to just four shots. The Rangers led 6-0 at halftime and sealed the mercy-rule win with two late goals in the second half.
“We have 25 players that can contribute at any given moment,” head coach James Beattie said. “Teams win championships, not individuals.”
The Rangers return to action Friday at Meridian Community College, where Jensen has the chance to break both the all-time career goals and points records.
