WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — Northwest Mississippi Community College women’s basketball improved to 3-0 with a dominant 62-48 road win over Arkansas State University Mid-South on Thursday night.
The Rangers opened with a 17-0 run and led 22-2 after the first quarter, fueled by a relentless full-court press and aggressive interior play. Sophomore Alorian Story recorded her second double-double of the season with 16 points and a season-high 17 rebounds, while Dekyra Mitchell led all scorers with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting.
Northwest’s defense was the difference, forcing 19 steals and six blocks. Zoe Metcalf led the defensive charge with six steals, and Laylah Hampton added six assists. Nine Rangers scored in total, showcasing depth and stamina as the team rotated fresh legs throughout the game.
Despite a late push from the Greyhounds, Northwest maintained control and closed out the win. Head Coach LaTaryl Williams praised the team’s conditioning and defensive execution, noting the importance of bench contributions heading into conference play.
Next up, Northwest hosts No. 6 Three Rivers College on Monday, Nov. 10 at 5:30 p.m. in Howard Coliseum. The Raiders, an NJCAA Division I Elite Eight team last season, present a major early-season test.
