JACKSON, Miss. — Olive Branch survived a furious West Jones rally and a late injury to a key starter, edging the Lady Mustangs 41–40 Monday morning in the MHSAA Class 6A girls semifinals to earn a spot in Thursday’s state championship game.
The Lady Quistors built early control behind a 20–13 halftime lead and extended the margin to 29–21 after three quarters on a last‑second layup from Caleigh Nix. But foul trouble for Vadaija Pimpton, who picked up her fourth early in the fourth quarter, shifted momentum as West Jones mounted a comeback.
West Jones tied the game at 35–35 with just over three minutes left before Nix drilled a deep three‑pointer to reclaim the lead. Olive Branch held on defensively in the final seconds to secure the one‑point win.

Nix and Pimpton each scored 15 points, while Chloe Dorsey added 6 and Ivy Selph scored 3. West Jones was led by Lamirekal Russell and Dakathyion Sinegal, both with 14 points.
A late concern emerged when Selph, the senior guard who hit a clutch three in the quarterfinals, was shaken up in the final minutes. Her status for Thursday’s championship game was uncertain immediately after the contest.
Coach Jason Thompson said the win was gritty, not glamorous.
“It wasn’t the prettiest by a long shot,” Thompson said. “But sometimes you have to win the ugly ones. I’m grateful we got the win and can advance to the championship.”
Olive Branch will face either Neshoba Central or Forest Hill for the 6A state title.
