Monday sports page: Lady Rangers softball moves into NJCAA top 10

LADY RANGERS SOFTBALL MOVED TO 10TH IN NJCAA RANKINGS

The Northwest softball program moved up a spot in the latest NJCAA Division II Rankings, going from the No. 11 spot to No. 10 nationally.

The No. 10 ranking is the highest for the Rangers since being ranked ninth in the March 18, 2024 poll.

Jones College continues to top the rankings, followed by Murray State (Okla.) at No. 2, third-ranked St. Johns River State (Fla.), Des Moines Area at No. 4 and fifth-ranked Pima (Ariz.).

Other MACCC programs represented in the latest rankings include Copiah-Lincoln at No. 8, 12th-ranked Northeast, Mississippi Gulf Coast at No. 15, 16th-ranked Pearl River and No. 21 Itawamba. Additionally, fellow NJCAA Region 23 foe LSU-Eunice moved up from No. 13 to the No. 11 spot.

EXPECTED INCLEMENT WEATHER MEANS CHANGES IN RANGER SCHEDULES

With inclement weather in the forecast for this Tuesday, changes are in store for this week’s Northwest baseball and tennis events.

Tuesday’s scheduled baseball round robin against Coahoma and East Mississippi has been shifted around, as well as Thursday’s doubleheader against Freed-Hardeman JV. The Rangers will now welcome Coahoma for a single nine-inning non-conference contest on Wednesday, March 5 at 4 P.M., before hosting East Mississippi and Freed-Hardeman JV for a round robin event on Thursday, March 6.

Thursday’s schedule will now see Northwest face Freed-Hardeman JV at 11 A.M. and East Mississippi at 5 P.M. Additionally, EMCC and Freed-Hardeman JV will also play at 2 P.M.

Meanwhile, the Northwest men’s and women’s tennis teams have also moved Tuesday’s matches against Meridian to Wednesday, March 5 at 1 P.M.
