Aug 4, 2024 – DeSoto Central won the Silver Bracket of the second annual Mississippi Volleyball Invitational held in Jackson over the weekend with a 2-0 victory over New Hope (Columbus) 2-0 in the final match.

Lake Cormorant and Lewisburg, defending state champions from last year in 6A and 7A respectively, both won first round matches in the Gold Bracket on Saturday and met each other in the second round. That’s where Lake Cormorant defeated Lewisburg 2-0. Lake Cormorant defeated Oxford and Lewisburg stopped Germantown (Madison) in the first round.
Lake Cormorant moved on to face Brandon in the next round and lost to the Bulldogs, the team that would advance on to win the Gold Bracket title.
Thirty-two teams invited from around the state opened the volleyball season at the Jackson Convention Center with pool play Friday and bracket play on Saturday.
