Lewisburg Sweeps DeSoto Central, Takes Control of Region 1-7A Volleyball Race

Lewisburg, Miss. – Lewisburg strengthened its hold on the Region 1-7A volleyball race Thursday night with a commanding 3-0 sweep over DeSoto Central at home.

The Lady Patriots won in straight sets, 25-14, 25-17, and 25-20, behind a balanced attack and strong defensive play.

Match Recap

First Set: Lewisburg rallied from an early 4-2 deficit to tie at 6-6 and take the lead for good. Addison Cole’s serving pushed the margin to 16-9, and a kill from Gwen Tuffield made it 23-13 before the Lady Patriots closed out the opener, 25-14.

Second Set: Lewisburg stormed ahead 4-0 before DeSoto Central chipped away to get within one at 13-12. From there, the Lady Patriots pulled away again, with Cole finishing the set 25-17 on a kill.

Third Set: Cole and Tuffield powered Lewisburg to a 20-13 lead, and Kamari Parker’s ace extended the margin to 22-13. The Lady Jags closed within four at 24-20, but Cole’s kill sealed the sweep with a 25-20 victory.

The Lady Patriots’ win was fueled by multiple standout efforts across the court:

Coach’s Reaction

Lewisburg coach Amy Hendrichovsky credited her team’s energy and execution in the victory.

“I thought our girls came out focused and executed what we’ve been talking about,” Hendrichovsky said. “They did a good job staying strong together and putting pressure on DeSoto Central.”

The coach highlighted Cole’s versatility and Wier’s reliability in the back row.

“Addison sets, attacks, and tonight she did a great job serving,” Hendrichovsky said. “Laney was incredible in the back row. She’s been very consistent, and I’m glad she’s getting her opportunity this year.”

Hendrichovsky noted that while the victory gives Lewisburg momentum, there’s still more work to do.
“It’s early September,” she said. “We’ll see them (DeSoto Central) again at County, and possibly later in the season.”
