Oct. 8, 2024 – It won’t be a surprise if you’ve watched her play, but Lake Cormorant’s Sofia Gonzalez is a repeat winner of the Miss Volleyball Award in Mississippi. The Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) and Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) made the announcement on Tuesday ahead of the beginning of MHSAA playoff action tonight.

Gonzalez, a junior who won the award while helping her team win the MHSAA 6A state championship last year, this season has amassed 383 kills, 77 ace serves, 336 digs, and 42 assists for a team that has won a school record 35 matches entering Tuesday’s first-round home meeting with Vicksburg.

She joined Maci Phifer of Ingomar (2A) as repeat winners of the award, which was first awarded in 2023.

All 2024 Miss Volleyball winners will be recognized during the MHSAA state championships at Mississippi College in Clinton on Oct. 17-18. The winner for each classification will be recognized pregame before each championship game.
