Inaugural Miss Volleyball honors to be made
The top high school volleyball players in Mississippi will be named Miss Volleyball at the end of the season, thanks to a new honor sponsored by the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA), the Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) and with collaboration of C Spire. The award will be made during the week before the state championships in October.
“Being able to work with outstanding partners like C Spire to create these award programs helps us fulfill part of our mission to provide positive recognition for our member schools and student athletes,” said MHSAA Executive Director Rickey Neaves. “We continue to watch the sport of volleyball flourish throughout the state, and we are excited to recognize seven outstanding young ladies next month.”
Ceremonial presentations for the award winners will take place during the state championship games at Ole Miss (Oct. 19-20) and during a special awards luncheon in the MHSAA Conference Center the week following the championships. The selection process will include representatives from the MAC committee, coaches throughout the state, and statewide media. Criteria will include on-court performance as well as being a good teammate, displaying sportsmanship, and conducting oneself with integrity.
“We know the addition of these superlative awards have been well received in other sports and that volleyball will be no different,” said Johnny Mims, Executive Director of the MAC. “Support from C Spire, one of our most loyal partners, allows us to build more excitement around the state and to promote our coaches, student-athletes, and schools.”
One “Miss Volleyball” will be selected from each MHSAA classification with the selections being based on the regular season body of work. Winners will be announced the week of Oct. 9.
