Hustle fall in overtime thriller to Valley Suns

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — The Memphis Hustle dropped a hard‑fought 109-107 overtime decision to the Valley Suns on Tuesday night at Landers Center, closing out a competitive two‑game NBA G League series.

Jordan Minor powered Memphis (1-3) with 18 points and 10 rebounds off the bench, while Tyler Burton matched him with 18 points and seven boards. Javon Small added 17 points and six rebounds, and Jahmai Mashack delivered a well-rounded performance with 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Charlie Brown Jr. finished with 11 points, and Nate Hinton grabbed 10 rebounds.

Valley (2-2) was led by a standout performance from Damion Baugh, who posted 34 points, 10 assists and three steals. CJ Huntley, JaQuori McLaughlin and Jaden Shackelford each scored 14 points, and Alex Schumacher contributed 11 points, six rebounds and five assists off the bench.

Memphis erased a 13-point deficit in the third quarter with a dominant 27-4 run, taking a 95-85 lead early in the fourth. Valley countered with a 16-6 surge to force overtime.

In the extra period, Huntley scored first for the Suns before Small answered with two free throws. Shackelford’s contested layup put Valley back in front, and after both teams traded free throws to tie the game at 107, Baugh sealed the win with a 16-foot fadeaway jumper to hit the target score of 108.

Despite the loss, the Hustle controlled the interior, outscoring Valley 60-40 in the paint and dominating the glass 57-34. Memphis also produced a season-high 34 second-chance points and forced 27 points off turnovers. Valley countered with 21 fast-break points.

The Hustle begin a three-game road trip on Wednesday, Dec. 31, facing the Salt Lake City Stars at 7 p.m. Central time.
