Friday sports: Hustle drop Winter Showcase finale, Quistors win again

The Memphis Hustle (5-11) concluded the NBA G League Winter Showcase with a 113-98 loss to Raptors 905 (4-12) in Orlando, Florida.

David Johnson led the Hustle with 21 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Two-way transfer GG Jackson II totaled 19 points and six rebounds. Matthew Hurt scored 16 points. On assignment from the Grizzlies, Jake LaRavia added 13 points. Jason Preston dished out 11 assists.

Jontay Porter paced Raptors 905 with 22 points and nine rebounds. Kevin Obanor added 17 points and 12 rebounds. Mouhamadou Gueye scored 16 points. Kobi Simmons added 15 points and seven assists. Markquis Nowell contributed 14 points and 11 assists. Justise Winslow tallied 11 points off the bench.

After six ties and six lead changes, Raptors 905 ended the first half on a 15-0 run to push their lead to double digits. Raptors 905 led by as many as 25 in the second half.

Raptors 905 scored 27 points off turnovers and outscored the Hustle 62-48 in the paint. Memphis was outrebounded 52-39.

Records will reset when the Hustle return to action to tip-off the regular season on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at 5 p.m. as they travel to face the Indiana Mad Ants.

OLIVE BRANCH WINS AGAIN AT WESTERN KENTUCKY HOOPS CLASSIC

Olive Branch boys’ basketball defeated Clarksville, Tenn. Rossview 82-53 for its second straight win in the Western Kentucky Hoops Classic at Caldwell County High School in Princeton, Kentucky. Kelton Brown scored 18 points to earn Most Valuable Player honors for the Quistors. Zahir Gutierrez added 19 points in the win.
