Horn Lake sweeps basketball doubleheader from Lake Cormorant

HORN LAKE, Miss. — The Horn Lake Eagles basketball teams secured a home sweep against county rival Lake Cormorant on Tuesday night, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams earning hard-fought victories.

In the boys’ game, Horn Lake defeated Lake Cormorant 48-40 behind a game-high 17 points from Julian Jeter.

The Eagles established control early, dominating the first quarter to take an 11-2 lead. They maintained a 22-13 advantage at halftime and extended it to 36-22 by the start of the fourth quarter.

Lake Cormorant mounted a comeback in the final period, cutting the deficit to just two points. However, Horn Lake withstood the rally to seal the eight-point victory.

Jeter was supported by Trey Gilliam, who scored 11 points, and Loghan Johnson, who added 10 points for the Eagles. Demarius Bryant led Lake Cormorant with 16 points, while Demario Jones Jr. scored 10.

The girls’ contest was a tighter affair, with the Horn Lake Lady Eagles edging Lake Cormorant 50-46.

The teams were tied 11-11 after the first quarter before Horn Lake took a 22-17 lead into halftime. The Lady Eagles held a slim 35-34 advantage entering the final quarter.

Lake Cormorant briefly took the lead late in the game, but Horn Lake answered with key baskets to pull ahead 49-46 before a final free throw secured the 50-46 win.

Kalia Pernell led Horn Lake with 15 points. Desirae Green paced Lake Cormorant with 14 points.
