Harrell, Jensen Sweep MACCC Soccer Player of the Week Awards
For the third time this season and the ninth time in her college career, Northwest sophomore Anna Kathryn Harrell has garnered MACCC Goalkeeper of the Week accolades, the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference announced on Tuesday morning.
Additionally, freshman midfielder Emma Jensen garnered MACCC Offensive Player of the Week honors, marking the first offensive award of the season for Northwest. The Gammelby, Germany native is the first Lady Ranger selected for offensive POTW recognition since Mari Julia Delgado on November 7, 2023.
In a 2-0 week for Northwest, Harrell collected eight saves and allowed just one goal, which came in a close 2-1 victory against No. 20 Mississippi Gulf Coast last Friday. The Tupelo native also posted a shutout earlier in the week against 11th-ranked Pearl River.
For the season, Harrell has 31 saves with five goals allowed and a 9-0 record. She already holds the program’s single-season and career records for goalkeeper victories and shutouts, further widening the gap in both categories throughout this season.
Meanwhile, Jensen was one of two offensive players with a strong week for Northwest, providing two goals and three assists in the sweep against Pearl River and Mississippi Gulf Coast. She tallied two goals and three assists for the week, scoring one goal and two assists in the 4-0 shutout victory over PRCC. Against MGCCC, Jensen broke a scoreless draw with her penalty kick goal in the first half, before teaming up with freshman Caroline Hamm on the most important play of the match.
Tied 1-1 with 30 seconds left in regulation, a foul set up a free kick for Northwest. The kick was fielded by Jensen, who quickly turned around and passed the ball to Hamm, who broke free and scored the go-ahead goal with 17 seconds remaining, helping the Lady Rangers escape with a 2-1 win.
For the season, Jensen has seven goals and six assists, tied for the team lead in both categories.
Northwest (9-0, 4-0 MACCC) will return to conference play on Friday, October 4 against Hinds, scheduled for a 4 P.M. start time. The Lady Eagles (3-6-2, 1-3 MACCC) enter the match after falling 5-1 to sixth-ranked Jones College last Friday.
