Friday sports: Jaguars move on with walk off win over Tupelo
DeSoto Central baseball moved into the second round of the MHSAA 6A playoffs Friday night with a 1-0 victory over the Tupelo Golden Wave. The Jaguars now will play Hernando in the second round next week.
The tense, defensive battle was decided in DeSoto Central’s final at bat of the night. Ryan Moore hit an infield base hit with one out and after Luke Sides was struck out for the second out of the inning, Josh King came up to the plate. Moore stole second and then came home with the winning run when King stroked a single to center field to win the game.
Each team had four hits for the game with DeSoto Central’s Gavin Brassfield hitting a double for the base hit of the night.
Hugh Parsons struck out five in posting the complete-game victory.
